If yesterday’s teaser tested our nerves with an eerie peek into the history of the Enfield Poltergeist, then New Line Cinema’s first full trailer for The Conjuring 2 serves up an assault on the senses, showcasing what happens when Ed and Lorraine Warren are drawn back into the realm of all things supernatural.
When there’s something strange spotted in the neighborhood of Brimsdown, Enfield, Peggy Hodgson is left with little choice but to call the Warrens – Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga – the real-life paranormal investigators that underpin New Line Cinema’s budding horror franchise. This time around, returning director James Wan is weaving his horror sequel around the purported true story of the Enfield haunting, where a demonic possession brought terror upon Hodgson and her vulnerable four children during the late 70s.
Of all the siblings to be most affected, it’s Madison Wolfe’s Janet that experiences the spine-chilling effects of the unhinged poltergeist the most, leading to some truly dark and disturbing scenes that can be glimpsed in today’s full trailer.
In rooting The Conjuring 2 within true events, director James Wan is hoping to emulate the success of the original movie with a well-crafted and chilling account of the titular ghost. Indeed, Wan wrote the script himself along with Carey and Chad Hayes, and David Leslie Johnson, and the official logline describes The Enfield Poltergeist as so:
“Paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) travel to 1977 England to help single mom Peggy Hodgson and her four children, particularly daughter Janet (played by Madison Wolfe).”
The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist will look to mark James Wan’s return to the genre with a bang when New Line’s sequel opens in the thick of the summer corridor on June 10, 2016.
