Holy fan service Batman! As the new trailer for The Flash continues to trend after being released during yesterday’s Super Bowl, accompanying character posters have hit the internet and people everywhere are going nuts. The only problem? DC’s upcoming opus marks the end of the Snyderverse.
With James Gunn’s recent announcement surrounding the future of the DCU, it’s out with the old and in with the new when it comes to Zack Snyder’s decade-long take on the superhero genre.
Showcasing some the film’s most iconic characters, The Flash is shaping up to be a heroic crossover unlike any other. Check out the mind-melting trailer here — you can thank us later.
Let’s take a second for this lineup to sink in. You’ve got (of course) the Flash himself. Then there’s the introduction of Supergirl, who looks about as cool as they come. Oh, and we get to see TWO Batmen. Impressed yet?
Michael Keaton’s Batman finally returns front and center, with Ben Affleck’s take on the Dark Knight right alongside him. We know the holidays were a couple months ago, but it certainly feels a lot like Christmas. There’s no doubt that The Flash is going to warp our collective perceptions of reality, and there’s no telling how deep this rabbit hole goes.
It’s true that in releasing a poster set like this, the folks at DC are making an incredibly calculated decision to wash over years of established mythos — but the reality is that it needed to be done.
In order to move on from the old characters, storylines, successes, and failures of the former DCU, James Gunn and co. have to give us something totally new. A distraction is exactly what fans needed, and for now, it’s what they’ve gotten.
