Ready to make history? Ubisoft Motion Pictures and New Regency have pumped out yet another TV spot for Assassin’s Creed, the live-action video game adaptation hailing from Justin Kurzel.
Angled as a potential franchise-starter, here we see Michael Fassbender in the dual role of Callum Lynch and Spanish sleuth Aguilar. It won’t be only film in which the Oscar-nominated actor holds more than one role either, given that he’s set to play two synthetics in next year’s Alien: Covenant.
However, before shooting for the stars, another brand of sci-fi awaits. With Assassin’s Creed, Fassbender’s modern-day protagonist will gain access to the memory strands of his long-deceased ancestors, catapulting him back to the Spanish Inquisition thanks to a piece of kit known as the Animus. Inducted into the assassin’s guild as Aguilar, our hero then begins to train his sights on the nefarious Templar organization, which still has its tentacles in the present day under the guise of Abstergo Industries. Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson, Michael K. Williams, Ariane Labed, Matias Varela, Denis Ménochet complete the star-studded ensemble.
Assassin’s Creed is earmarked for release on December 21, and only then will we know whether all that sequel chatter has been vindicated.
Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.
