Elizabeth Olsen has clinched the prize for Best Villain at the MTV Movie & TV Awards for her spellbinding portrayal of Wanda Maximoff in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Much to the amusement of her fans, Olsen’s win stirred up the ire of Toxic Twitter as some of her detractors took issue with a woman winning the coveted award.
As the MTV Movie & TV Awards are fan-voted, Scarlet Witch fans merrily took to social media to celebrate her triumph, uplift the star and bask in the sexist lamentations of Olsen’s critics. Some saw her win as a personal victory.
Another member of the Scarlet Witch fandom recognized the many accolades the star is receiving for her outstanding performance in the Doctor Strange sequel. They wondered if the outrage was a manifestation of Twitter’s anarchic culture.
One fan pointed out how the hysterical blowback from Twitter’s disgruntled bachelors served to propel Olsen’s star to greater heights.
Another fan was surprised that Olsen’s critics had short memories and had yet to reconcile themselves to her status as the reigning queen of MCU badness. Indeed, Olsen’s Best Villain award is her third win at the MTV Movie & TV Awards. In 2021, she took home statuettes for Best Performance in a Show and Best Fight with Kathryn Hahn for her performance on the Disney Plus series WandaVision.
Olsen received praise for her resilience in the face of unrelenting sexism she encounters in her role as a superhero.
