The SnyderVerse subset didn’t take long to settle on a disparaging nickname for the new Superman

It hasn’t even been 24 hours and already, the Zack Snyder zealots have begun their campaign of bullying against new Superman, David Corenswet.

The actor was revealed as the lead for James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy on Tuesday, something that’s been a long time coming. Despite Henry Cavill being dropped in 2022, many are still relentlessly calling for him to be brought back despite its futility. The outrage was initially aimed at Gunn, who pretty much pulled the trigger in order to restart the DCU from scratch.

Now, fans have turned their anger and immaturity to Corenswet, with the newcomer’s only crime accepting the role he was offered. On Twitter there are already plenty of mean comments, although the disparaging name that seems to have stuck so far is “Walmart Henry Cavill.” Pictures of the two side-by-side show the similarities between the duo.

Looking at the two side by side, there’s no denying they closely resemble each other. But it’s unfair on the actor to call him out simply for looking like the last guy. No-one ever felt the need to point out that Cavill is an off-brand Christopher Reeve. Some fans did jump in to defend the actor and call out the immature behavior of the Snyder loyalists.

Superman has a pretty distinguishable facial structure, so it follows that the actors who play him would probably all look quite similar. If Gunn had picked someone who looked completely different, then these same fans would likely be complaining about how he doesn’t look enough like Superman.

We haven’t even seen the man act yet, so he could surpass his predecessor, and yet the fans seem content to simply judge a book by it’s cover and assume that Corenswet will simply be a lesser version of Cavill.

Newsflash! Cavill never did anything that literally any other actor couldn’t have done. Don’t get me wrong, he was good for that iteration of Superman, but he is not the Messiah. Some have elevated him to an insanely high pedestal, and it’s gone a bit too far now. Besides, we should all consider ourselves lucky that Gunn didn’t cast Chris Pratt for the thousandth time. Not to say anything against Pratt, he’s just very clearly the favorite child of Gunn’s flock.
