Terry Gilliam is an odd, yet always interesting filmmaker. His movies are certainly anything but conventional and you can always count on him for some good, twisted fun. Admittedly, his work may not be for everyone, but those who “get” the director will no doubt be excited for his upcoming effort: The Zero Theorem.
Everything we’ve seen from the film thus far leads us to believe that it will be as wild and wacky as one should expect from something that Gilliam attaches his name to, but this newly released trailer gives us an even more bizarre look at the world and characters that the director has crafted this time around. Admittedly, it’s comprised of a lot of footage that we’ve already seen before but it’s still pretty far out, strange and certainly not commercial.
Starring Christoph Waltz, David Thewlis, Melanie Thierry, Ben Whishaw, Tilda Swinton and Matt Damon, The Zero Theorem tells the story of Qohen, who is tasked with “solving the Zero Theorem, an equation that proves that existence is meaningless. Of course, this sends the man down the futuristic rabbit hole as he fights bureaucracy and gets lost in a world that blends reality and fantasy.” Just about par for the course when it comes to Terry Gilliam, wouldn’t you say?
Unfortunately, early reviews have been split down the middle, with our very own Dom Mill giving it a 2.5/5. Still, as someone who has enjoyed most, if not all, of Gilliam’s work thus far, I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what he’s come up with here.
The Zero Theorem has no US release date yet but it will hit the UK on March 14th. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think.
