Blade Runner 2049 notwithstanding, Thor: Ragnarok will be remembered as one of the best-looking movies of 2017.
Between them, writer-director Taika Waititi and Javier Aguirresarobe, the cinematographer tasked with bringing Sakaar’s technicolor vistas to life, created a wondrous space oddity for Thor’s third (and final?) solo adventure. And now, we know when we’ll be able to revisit the hugely enjoyable threequel, as Reddit has outed the film’s Blu-ray release date as March 6th.
That’s only two months away and with Black Panther also on the horizon (look for it to claw its way into theaters on February 16th), there’s much for Marvel fans to be excited about in the first quarter of 2018. But circling back to Waititi’s blockbuster, and given that the studio has yet to make any kind of official announcement about its home video release, we’re currently without a list of special features. Still, we expect there to be much to dig into, as viewers are surely eager to get a look behind the scenes of the God of Thunder’s recent solo outing.
We’ll let you know once more details are revealed, but we think it’s fair to say that with a global box office haul of $841 million, Thor: Ragnarok won’t just go down as one of 2017’s most gorgeous films, but also one of the year’s most successful. With that in mind, it’s no wonder Taika Waititi is already beginning to drop hints about working with Marvel on a future project.
The New Zealand filmmaker is currently one of the most sought-after creators in the business, and though his zany Black Widow pitch might be too much of a stretch, it’s nigh on certain that Waititi will be back working within the MCU sooner rather than later. Other Marvel characters are still on the table, it seems, though he’ll likely stick with the God of Thunder. And can you really blame him?
