The Thor: Ragnarok blowout continues.
Yesterday alone, Marvel fans were inundated by tantalizing story details and character posters ripped straight out of a technicolor dream, and the folks at Screen Rant have now relayed the latest piece of intel relating to Taika Waititi’s long-awaited November blockbuster. And make no mistake, after being crowned most-anticipated fall release by Fandango, the excitement swirling around Ragnarok is palpable.
Screen Rant’s report, meanwhile, concerns Jane Foster’s place in Thor: Ragnarok – or lack thereof. Brought to life by Natalie Portman, the Norse god’s earthling better half last appeared in The Dark World four years ago, and though Marvel has since tweaked Jane’s backstory ever so slightly, we’re now learning that Ragnarok will address their mutual (?) break-up after all.
That’s according to Chris Hemsworth, at least, who was asked if Waititi’s cosmic threequel will directly address Jane Foster:
Umm, no we have this, we have some… some very respectable fun with how that relationship may have come to an end [laughs].
Perhaps that’ll open up a potential romance between Thor and Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie? Not so fast. As Hemsworth tells Screen Rant, it seems that when it comes to Thompson’s warrior, the Asgardian has met his match.
It’s like Thor’s meeting his hero! And he’s absolutely smitten by her and because of her history, and being a Valkyrie and all of that. But she’s also this beautiful woman so he’s kind of caught off guard. And she can, you know, she could beat the s*** out of him if she wanted. So I think he hasn’t come up against that very often.
It certainly wasn’t the case with Jane. There was a whole different affection and love there. So that was another, you know, ‘How can we make that different from the previous one?’
Based on Ragnarok‘s inspired trailers, we know the God of Thunder will cross paths with Valkyrie aboard the alien planet of Sakaar. Ditto for Mark Ruffalo’s green rage monster, who’s been totally absent from the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Avengers: Age of Ultron, which shipped Hulk off toward the stars aboard a S.H.I.E.L.D. Quinjet. In those intervening years, it seems Bruce Banner has cemented his place as the planet’s finest gladiator – much to the delight of Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster.
Thor: Ragnarok is pegged for a release on November 3rd sans Jane Foster.
