In Thor: Ragnarok, the God of Thunder will compile a ragtag team to defeat Hela the Goddess of Death (AKA Cate Blanchett) as she attempts to takeover Asgard. In addition to his “friend from work,” the Hulk, Thor will recruit the kickass Valkyrie and even his no-good brother Loki to stop the ensuing apocalypse. In this new glimpse at the upcoming Marvel movie, though, it looks like there will be some in-fighting within the group.
The image, which first cropped up on Instagram, depicts Tom Hiddleston’s God of Mischief and and Tessa Thompson’s warrior woman involved in what looks to be a fierce knife fight. While Loki’s no match for Valkyrie in physical combat, we imagine that the trickster will employ his usual holograms and misdirection techniques to give himself the upper hand in the battle.
As for why they’re fighting, it’s not too difficult to figure out. Presumably, Valkyrie isn’t too pleased about working alongside Odin’s treacherous adoptive son and one of the all-round worst villains in the galaxy.
Valkyrie won’t be the only good guy that Loki tussles with in the movie, either, at least according to Tom Hiddleston. Previously, the actor teased that his character won’t get along with Doctor Strange, played by Hiddleston’s real-life buddy Benedict Cumberbatch, when the pair cross paths in Thor: Ragnarok. “I think he probably dismisses Strange,” Hiddleston commented.
While he still isn’t the nicest person to team up with, it does look like Loki really has changed his spots. On why he doesn’t just side with Hela in the film, Hiddleston said the Goddess “might have been someone with whom at one time he could’ve gotten along, but the circumstances have changed.” Exactly why they have changed, however, we don’t yet know.
Said to be “the funniest Thor” movie yet, Thor: Ragnarok is set to strike cinemas screens on November 3rd.
