As acting president of Marvel Studios and one of the key architects responsible for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Kevin Feige is a qualified expert in bringing some of the company’s greatest characters together – and all under the one narrative umbrella, no less.
Since its inception almost ten years ago, the MCU has grossed an eye-watering $10 billion at the worldwide box office, and Thor: Ragnarok is all set to become the latest feather in the studio’s cap. And thanks to its stellar reception, it’s all but certain that the threequel will push that total cume higher still.
But perhaps more than anything else, the fact that Kevin Feige is deeply invested in the MCU’s character roster ensures Marvel’s crown jewel retains some semblance of continuity, which is no mean feat in the bustling world of interconnected franchises.
When it comes to chances of The Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum) and The Collector (Benicio Del Toro) sharing the screen, though, Feige refused to rule out the possibility of a potential Thor/Guardians crossover.
Given they both exist within Marvel’s so-called Cosmic Universe, Ragnarok and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 are like two peas in an intergalactic pod, and the fact that The Grandmaster and The Collector are actually brothers in Marvel Comics only adds fuel to the smoldering fire.
Per Fandango:
It would be awesome man. It would be great. We love the idea that they’re brothers. If you go on the Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout attraction at California Adventure in Anaheim, you will see a picture on Collector’s wall of he and the Grandmaster playing some sort of a space chess game, which right now is the only place you can see the two of them in a frame together, but let’s hope that changes someday.
Jeff Goldblum has already been quite vocal about wanting to craft a future for his Grandmaster beyond Thor: Ragnarok, so there’s no telling what Marvel has in store. Look for Taika Waititi’s threequel to open Stateside on November 3rd, and if it’s more coverage you’re after, have a gander at our official review.
