From what we’ve learned so far about Deadpool, director Tim Miller and star Ryan Reynolds are gung-ho about delivering a solo pic that will honor the character, respect the fans and dish out a ton of quick-witted barbs.
Reynolds, who is reprising the titular ‘merc with a mouth’ role, is set to be joined by a wealth of genre stars, including but not limited to Morena Baccarin (Gotham), Ed Skrein (Game Of Thrones), Gina Carano (Fast & Furious 6) and Silicon Valley‘s T.J. Miller. The entire complement possess a ton of geek-centric experience that will no doubt lend a helping hand when it comes to their Deadpool characters.
At this stage, there’s not a great deal of specific information regarding each actor. Baccarin is thought to be playing a love interest to Reynolds’ main man, Carano is confirmed as a member of the Morlocks, and Ed Skrein’s involvement is still being kept quiet.
So, who will Miller be playing? In accordance with earlier reports, he’s been rumored for a comedy sidekick role and thanks to a Tweet the actor posted last night, we now know who. Responding to a fan who made reference to the actor’s build, Miller revealed the following:
.@BeetleBench @ccstandup It wouldn’t be that I am so motherfucking method that @RealErlich is a tub of arrogance but #Deadpool #WeaselThin
— t.j. miller (@nottjmiller) March 17, 2015
Now, this could simply be Miller drawing a comparison to his current physique with a Deadpool character. Saying that, Weasel certainly fits the ‘comedy sidekick’ profile. According to the Wikipedia profile, he’s described thusly:
Weasel is a friend, sidekick, information broker and arms dealer for Deadpool. Weasel is perhaps Deadpool’s best friend. However, because of his frequent mood swings and tenuous mental state, Deadpool still often abuses or mistreats him, although Weasel has also displayed an opportunistic streak against his friend on occasion.
The official Marvel Universe Wiki goes on to list some of Weasel’s aliases – one of which is the superb “Deadpool’s Whipping Boy.” Until official confirmation arrives we’ll label this as a rumor, but by the looks of things, Miller is poised to get whipped by Reynolds.
Deadpool opens in theaters on February 12, 2016.
