As promised, Paramount has debuted the first full-length trailer for Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation and it’s a doozy. Showcasing slick set-pieces, Tom Cruise performing yet more daring stunts and of course, Lalo Schifrin’s indelible theme song, the sizzle reel offers up a brief hint of what we can expect in the upcoming sequel – and yes, those by-now infamous face masks make a return, too.
Speaking about the stunt, Cruise touched upon what is perhaps the film’s flagship set piece: Ethan Hunt hanging from the side of an airbourne plane while a grounded Benji (Simon Pegg) scrambles to unlock the door. According to the veteran daredevil, the cast and crew wanted to perform something that emulated the Burj tower sequence found in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.
“I’ve often sat on airplanes, looked out and thought, ‘What it would be like out there on the wing?'” Cruise said. “This is the (stuff) I think about.”
With Jack Reacher‘s Christopher McQuarrie behind the lens, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation will bring together Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Ving Rhames, Sean Harris, Rebecca Ferguson and Alec Baldwin assuming the role of the CIA’s head honcho.
Following a reshuffle by Paramount, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation will now open in theaters on July 31. For now, you can take a look at the trailer above and some new photos from the film below.
