Tom Cruise is coming back, and in a big way! After Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol proved to studios, audiences and critics that he’s still a bonafide action star, Cruise is starting to fill up his plate with a number of high profile/big budget projects that will thrust him back into the Hollywood spotlight.
Admittedly, it’s not like Cruise ever faded into oblivion, but there was definitely a point where he wasn’t the bankable name that he used to be. After the success of the latest Mission: Impossible film though, Cruise is back and he has just added one more interesting project to his increasingly busy plate.
Tom Cruise will reboot the classic character Van Helsing. Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, who have been on a role in Hollywood lately (they also did re-writes on Cruise’s upcoming All You Need Is Kill), will write the film for Universal Studios as a part of their new two-year first look deal. That’s not all though, the writing duo also plans to re-imagine Universal’s The Mummy, though no stars are attached to it as of yet.
“We’re thrilled to call Universal Pictures our home,” said Kurtzman and Orci. “From the moment we sat down with Adam, Donna, Peter, Jeff and the entire Uni team, there was an instant flow of inspired ideas. They really understand the importance of building a strong creative team and giving our shared projects their full support. We’re proud to start making movies that will live as part of Universal’s enduring legacy.”
Honestly, I enjoyed Hugh Jackman‘s take on Van Helsing back in 2004. It wasn’t a perfect film but it was definitely entertaining. Cruise will surely give the character a whole new spin but I do look forward to seeing what he’ll do with it.
What about you? Do you want to see Cruise as the famous vampire hunter?
