Do you feel the need? The need for speed?
Of course you do – otherwise you wouldn’t be here reading about Top Gun: Maverick, now would you? But it seems Paramount’s action sequel needs a little more time in the oven before it takes to the skies with its “incredible” flight sequences.
Yes, the studio has opted to delay the pic by almost a year, but that doesn’t mean things aren’t still moving along at a nice pace. In fact, it was only a few weeks ago that we got our first look at Maverick’s new fighter jet and now, we have some shots of the seasoned pilot himself, as Tom Cruise has been spotted on set and you can see him getting back into the swing of things in the gallery down below.
For Top Gun: Maverick, the Mission: Impossible – Fallout star will be stepping back into the role of Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, who’s now a flight instructor and will likely be seen barking orders at a slew of new recruits. Plot details beyond that remain under lock and key, but we can tell you that Paramount has assembled an incredible cast for this one.
Alongside Cruise we’ll see A-listers such as Jon Hamm and Westworld star Ed Harris, while Jennifer Connelly, Miles Teller, Glen Powell, Thomasin McKenzie and Val Kilmer’s inimitable LT Tom Kazansky – better known to you, I and the cadets of the NAS Miramar base as the Ice Man – will all be involved as well.
Top Gun: Maverick is currently shooting for a worldwide release on June 26th, 2020 – not summer 2019 – and only then will it be able to rekindle our love for cheesy ’80s action movies.
