Believe it or not, movie sets aren’t always happy, enjoyable work environments, where everyone gets along and has a grand old time. Some actors are notoriously difficult to work with, as are some directors, and many films have behind the scenes drama that we usually don’t hear about. One project where stories of on set arguments and feuds came to light though was Mad Max: Fury Road.
Around the time it released, there were rumors that Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy had some beef, though you wouldn’t know it, as each actor gave an incredible performance in what many call one of the greatest action films, ever. Still, reports said that they weren’t on good terms while making the movie and now, co-star Zoe Kravitz has confirmed it.
During an appearance on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live, here’s what she had to share:
“They didn’t get along. We were also in the desert for so long. I think everyone was tired, and confused, and homesick. We saw nothing but sand for six months. You go crazy, you do. It’s not even personal. I actually don’t know if there was one issue. I just think it was like they weren’t vibing. It’s like summer camp, you know. At some point, everybody has issues with somebody because it’s just the way people are.”
What Kravitz says makes sense. Theron and Hardy may not have gotten along, but shooting in that kind of environment for so long would drive most people crazy. From what we heard, the Dunkirk star’s acting methods were also a bit unconventional, which Theron wasn’t a fan off, as she found it hard to work with him. It couldn’t have been that bad, though, as both stars are fully on board for a sequel.
Speaking of which, last we heard, director George Miller has plans for at least two more films, one of which may be a prequel focusing on Theron’s Imperator Furiosa. While there hasn’t been much movement on the next Mad Max instalment just yet, a trip back to the Wasteland is definitely on the cards and we’re more than eager to head back there. Let’s just hope that the franchise’s two stars get along a bit better next time.
