The James Bond camp has been more or less silent ever since Danny Boyle departed – it seems we have creative differences to thank for that one – but things are still moving along behind the scenes, as the Powers That Be over at EON surprised everyone by hiring Cary Fukunaga (True Detective) the other week to get behind the camera for Bond 25.
Still no word on any plot details or who else may be starring alongside Daniel Craig, but talk has picked up recently about who could be stepping into the role next, once the actor hangs up his Walther PPK for good. We’ll give you a clue: he’s a fan favorite anti-hero over in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Yes, according to Express, Tom Hiddleston has just become the odds-on favorite to replace Craig and be crowned the next James Bond. The 37-year-old actor, best known for playing Loki in the MCU, has had his odds of 8-1 slashed to 4-5, climbing over previous favorites Idris Elba and Tom Hardy.
“It’s looking increasingly likely the name will be Hiddleston; Tom Hiddleston,” said a source recently.
At the moment, Elba and Hardy sit at 5-1, while Aidan Turner and James Norton have their odds at 10-1. Meanwhile, Henry Cavill and Orlando Bloom are in there as well, with their odds remaining at 12-1. It’s Hiddleston who’s on top, though and he may very well snag the role. Especially since producer Barbara Broccoli just recently confirmed that they won’t cast a woman.
All that’s set in stone right now though is that Daniel Craig has at least one more adventure as 007 on his plate, which will be in the upcoming Bond 25 directed by Cary Fukunaga, arriving in February 2020.
