Getting disintegrated is a hard loss to come back from, making it an ongoing topic of speculation and debate that Peter Parker is somehow returning for Spider-Man: Far From Home after suffering just such a fate in Avengers: Infinity War. Even the host of Jimmy Kimmel Live! was keen to ask Tom Holland about this when the star came on the show, but sadly, it seems that the actor’s getting a little better at not dropping spoilers.
The moment came at the end of a quick skit featuring Holland in character and in costume as the web-slinger. When Kimmel asked the hero if his next standalone film will be a prequel to the genocidal events of Infinity War, Peter offered the evasive response, “I think Thanos is robbing a bank so I’m gonna go.” When pressed further about why the world-conquering tyrant would resort to such small-scale crime, Spidey limply replied, “because Thanos is poor.”
While the team at Marvel Studios have been tight-lipped on the matter lately, producer Amy Pascal wasn’t so cautious last year when she let the following info slip:
“What I think we should focus on is this Spider-Man who started in Civil War and then has this movie, and then will be in the Avengers movie. And we are starting now the next one which will start a few minutes after Avengers 4 wraps as a story.”
Moreover, back in April of this year, Pascal’s notoriously spoiler-conscious co-producer Kevin Feige mentioned that the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel will answer the question, “What is it like to try to go back to a normal life after what happens in this movie [Infinity War]? Not to mention what happens in the next [Avengers] movie.”
So unless the Marvel team are playing an even sneakier game of deception than we realize, it looks like Avengers 4 is going to find some way of un-dusting Holland’s character, along with some of his heroic peers. After that, the wall-crawler should be free to hang out with MJ and fight Mysterio when Spider-Man: Far From Home comes out on July 5th, 2019.
