While it’s a world away from Boyhood‘s coming-of-age story, Disney-Pixar has welcomed aboard oscar-winning actress Patricia Arquette for Toy Story 4, who is now set to portray a brand new toy in the animated sequel.
Currently appearing in the sophomore season of CSI: Cyber, it’s unclear yet how prominent Arquette’s part will be in John Lasseter’s feature, though with a 2018 release in place, it’ll be some time yet before we learn more about the actress’ involvement. According to sources close to The Wrap, the role of a laid-back hippie mother is currently being pitched, which we assume Arquette is in line to fill.
Once slated for arrival in 2016, Toy Story 4 has already nailed down Tom Hanks and Tim Allen to reprise their roles as Woody and Buzz Lightyear, respectively, while Don Rickles will once again voice the ever-grouchy and ever-loveable Mr. Potato Head.
Now that Andy is all grown up and headed for College, Pixar’s somewhat controversial follow-up – can they really top that ending? – has been pitched as a love story between Woody and Little Bo Peep. Considering that the latter of Andy’s beloved toys was entirely absent from Toy Story 3, it’ll be interesting to see how their relationship pans out in the final feature, and we understand that Annie Potts will be lending her vocal chords to Woody’s long-time love interest.
Penned by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack, there hasn’t been much more released in terms of story beyond that core dynamic. After Disney’s reshuffling effort, Toy Story 4 is on course to launch in theaters on June 15, 2018, and we’ll no doubt learn more about Lasseter’s sequel as the pieces begin to fall into place for the studio.
