If you were to ask me which comic book movie I’m anticipating most in 2019, I’d have two answers for you. The obvious one is Joker because it’s being released theatrically in October, but overall, Batman: Hush takes the cake for me. It may be animated and direct-to-video, sure, but I’ve long waited for my favorite story featuring the Caped Crusader to be adapted to film.
Whetting the appetites of myself and those familiar with the source material is that of the first trailer promoting the flick, which can be viewed at the top of this article. To be honest, I’m quite proud of what I’m seeing. In reality, you can’t cram everything from a story which spanned twelve issues into one feature-length film, but the finer points are there.
If you’re wondering what I’m talking about, the romance involving Batman and Catwoman looks to be front and center, as evidenced by the opening footage. Furthermore, the battle with a Superman corrupted by Poison Ivy and the rivalry with Hush himself are also key components to the adaptation. Whether or not things such as the healing of Harvey Dent are included remain to be seen.
When it comes to the voice cast, Jason O’Mara returns for yet another adventure as the Dark Knight himself. Jennifer Morrison, meanwhile, voices a Catwoman who’s long overdue for appearing in this series of movies. Jerry O’Connell, Rebecca Romijn and Rainn Wilson will be back as Superman, Lois Lane and Lex Luthor, respectively, while Sean Maher (Nightwing), Bruce Thomas (Jim Gordon), Stuart Allan (Damian Wayne), Maury Sterling (Thomas Elliot) and James Garrett (Alfred) also star. And interestingly enough, Peyton List will reprise her role from Gotham by lending her pipes to Poison Ivy – not to mention pulling double duty as Batgirl.
Right now, Batman: Hush lacks a release date, but a July or August debut seems most likely. More details should drop any day now, so keep watching this space.
