New Trailer For The Monuments Men Details The Mission

Although George Clooney's The Monuments Men won't hit theaters until 2014, it's still a movie that a lot of people are excited for right now. It looks very promising, judging by what's been shown off so far, and today sees the release of a new trailer, which is even better than the first one that arrived back in August.

Although George Clooney’s The Monuments Men won’t hit theaters until 2014, it’s still a movie that a lot of people are excited for right now. It looks very promising, judging by what’s been shown off so far, and today sees the release of a new trailer, which is even better than the first one that arrived back in August.

Providing us with a ton of new footage while staying fairly consistent with the tone that we saw previously, it’s clear that the film still has that Ocean’s 11 meets WWII vibe, which I dig. The new trailer also goes more in depth in regards to why this group took on the mission that they did. It really lays out the stakes and shows why George Stout believed saving art was so important in the midst of all the death and suffering that went along with the Nazi regime.

It’s that part of the film that has me the most excited. We’ve seen so many World War II movies over the years that if all we got was just another traditional war flick, it would have almost no appeal. Taking a fresh spin on the genre while still staying true to history is a major part of what gives Clooney’s film the potential to be so enjoyable.

Obviously, the cast has me fairly excited as well. In addition to Clooney, Matt Damon, Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett, Jean Dujardin, John Goodman, Hugh Bonneville, and Bob Balaban are all on board, making for one of the most impressive ensemble casts in a long time (perhaps even since Ocean’s 11).

All that being said, I’m still pretty disappointed about this one getting pushed back to 2014. Not only does that mean we won’t get to see it for another few months, but usually when a film is moved out of Oscar season and into February that means it’s not quite as good as the studio had originally hoped. Then again, Clooney claims the move is merely so they have time to properly work out all the effects and finish the movie the way they originally envisioned. If that is indeed true, then the move simply means there’s going to be something really good to watch come February 7th.
