With all the hubbub about Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Guardians of the Galaxy and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, it’s easy to forget that there are some other huge blockbusters on the calendar for this summer. Before any of those aforementioned likely box office smashes arrives in theaters, we’re getting Transformers: Age of Extinction, the fourth film in the highly successful franchise as well as a quasi-reboot.
Instead of Shia LaBeouf and a far-out-of-his-league girlfriend running from falling buildings and brawling robots, this time Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz and Jack Reynor are serving as the human faces of the series.
In a new clip from Age of Extinction, Wahlberg’s inventor/family man Cade Yeager meets with villainous government official Harold Attinger (Kelsey Grammer), who warns him not to become involved with the Transformers and proceeds to directly threaten Yeager’s teenage daughter Tessa (Peltz). It’s a surprisingly action-free look at Transformers, but the tense nature of the conversation makes us think that an explosion-heavy sequence is right around the corner:
There’s also a new TV spot for Age of Extinction, which heavily features foreboding narration from head Autobot Optimus Prime (again voiced by Peter Cullen). “How many more of my kind must be sacrificed?” he asks of Cade. This looks like a darker Transformers than we’ve seen before, but the action is still the focus, as always. There are glimpses of Dinobots, citywide destruction and Cade inexplicably being able to block a crushing blow from a giant robot. In other words, it’s Bayhem as usual. Check it out below:
Transformers: Age of Extinction opens June 27th in IMAX 3D.
