It’s Friday, March 10th, and that can mean only one thing – and no, we’re not referring to the release of Kong: Skull Island. Instead, today is the day when Austin swings its doors open for SXSW 2017, kicking off a nine-day celebration of film, music, video games and the wonderful world of entertainment.
One film that has booked its place in the festival’s stacked lineup is Song to Song, Terrence Malick’s all-star music drama that rather fittingly takes place within Austin’s eclectic music scene. Due to open opposite Beauty and the Beast on March 17th, we’ve already caught the film’s first trailer, not to mention a handful of images designed to spotlight the core ensemble, but today brings forth two new clips via TrailerTown and Entertainment Weekly , both of which you can find below.
Anchored by Ryan Gosling, Michael Fassbender, Natalie Portman and Rooney Mara, Song to Song tackles love, obsession, and betrayal in the Live Music Capital of the World, and down below you’ll get a taste of Malick’s signature kinetic camerawork as it gets up close and personal with its leading players in the most naturalistic way possible. Channeling his La La Land performance, Gosling can also be seen trying to woo Rooney Mara’s indie rocker, before gaining a lesson in fashion from Michael Fassbender’s big-name music mogul. The latter offers a helping hand to Gosling’s budding musician, but we can’t help but feel that Fassbender’s character is harboring an ulterior motive. Among the long list of cameos, Malick’s picture also features roles from Patti Smith, Iggy Pop, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Florence and the Machine, The Black Lips and Lykke Li.
Song to Song opens via limited release on March 17th.
