Yellowjacket
An identity adopted by several characters in the Marvel Universe – some heroic, most villainous.
In the comics: Yellowjacket first appeared in Avengers #59 in 1968, created by Roy Thomas and John Buscema. The identity was initially adopted by Hank Pym – also known as Ant-Man. Then, in Avengers #264 in 1986, Yellowjacket resurfaced as Rita DeMara. Later, in the Ultimate Marvel comic book series, Yellowjacket was used by Ultron.
In the movies: Yellowjacket will debut in Ant-Man on July 17th, 2015. The identity will be adopted by Darren Cross – a former protégé of Hank Pym who takes over his companyand uses Pym’s Ant-Man technology to create the Yellowjacket suit.
Powers: As a variation of the Ant-Man suit, the Yellowjacket suit provides the ability to manipulate the size of the wearer, in addition to generating super strength and endurance. Yellowjacket has been seen to use the power of flight and has, on occasion, been able to project the effects of size manipulation onto other objects.
Enemies: In its various guises, the identity of Yellowjacket has clashed with the Avengers, the Defenders and Scarlet Witch at different times. In the film Ant-Man, Yellowjacket/Darren Cross will face off with Scott Lang and Hank Pym.
Casting: In Ant-Man, the character of Darren Cross – who adopts the identity of Yellowjacket – will be played by Corey Stoll.
