Ulysses Klaw
Ulysses Klaw is a highly intelligent physicist who transforms into a being of pure sound.
In the comics: As another creation of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Ulysses Klaw debuted as part of a flashback in Fantastic Four #53 in 1966. In Klaw’s attempt to create a device that generates physical mass from sound waves, he steals an amount of the fictional metal vibranium from the fictional African nation of Wakanda, killing the nation’s ruler – and superhero – Black Panther, or T’Chaka, in the process. T’Chaka’s teenage son T’Challa vows revenge and takes on the Black Panther identity, but Klaw goes on to create a device that transforms him into pure sound, rendering him immortal. Klaw then comes under the influence of Ultron.
In the movies: Ulysses Klaw has yet to make his debut in the live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe but, with a Black Panther movie scheduled for production, Klaw will be introduced in the upcoming Avengers: Age Of Ultron.
Powers: Post-transformation, Klaw is composed entirely of sound that is rendered solid, in effect, giving him something of a monstrous appearance. He has heightened strength and endurance, and possesses a device that can transform other sound as he desires. He is able to direct this sound, also – using it as a weapon. His unique use of sound allows him to develop sonar capabilities, in addition.
Enemies: Aside from T’Challa, or Black Panther, Ulysses Klaw has seen conflict with numerous Marvel characters – including the Fantastic Four, the Lady Liberators, Daredevil, Vision and the Avengers.
Casting: In animation, Ulysses Klaw has been voiced by Hal Smith, Charles Howerton, A.J. Buckley, Stephen Stanton, Mark Hamill and Matt Lanter. In Avengers: Age Of Ultron, he will be played by Andy Serkis.
