As if we needed another reason to re-watch Spider-Man: Homecoming again. Not only would it be a nice refresher before Far From Home hits theaters next month, but now comic book movie lovers have something else to draw them back to the film.
In a Q&A of sorts on YouTube between fans and the cast and crew of the upcoming sequel, a question was posed: Are there any undiscovered hidden Easter eggs in Homecoming? It was directed at Jon Watts, who helmed both that movie and Far From Home, and here’s what he had to say:
“It’s like almost so obscure that I don’t even know if anyone could ever find it, but there’s a Howard the Duck reference . . . . It’s a very small, small Easter egg hidden in tall grass.”
In a world full of superhero loving, movie scouring fans, this is pretty amazing, actually. It blows me away time and time again how fast some of the most obscure hidden gems are found. We’re coming up on two years since Homecoming’s release though and it turns out there’s still one left to find. That’s pretty wild.
As for this duck egg, everyone’s favorite feathered hero has been popping up in Marvel movies for quite a while. He appeared in both Guardians of the Galaxy films, and had a fun little battle cameo in Avengers: Endgame. Seeing how masterful he is with Quack-Fu, I bet he took out at least one of Thanos’ soldiers.
When it comes to Spider-Man: Homecoming though, we’re now curious as to where this Easter egg could’ve been placed. Was Cherry Bomb performing on a television somewhere? Did a magazine stand have the latest issue of Playduck? Does it have something to do with Stan the Janitor?
Grab your copy of the film and get to searching before July 2nd, which is when Far From Home swings into theaters.
