So we already knew that Universal was looking to give sequels to some of its more successful recent films, but now we know when they plan to deliver the goods. Pitch Perfect, The Bourne Legacy and Snow White and the Huntsman all did quite well for the studio and now we’re hearing that they hopes to bring us sequels to those three aforementioned titles in 2015.
First up is Pitch Perfect 2. The first film was a bonafide hit, bringing in over $110 million worldwide and earning pretty positive reviews. Add that to the fact that stars Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson are continuing to increase their presence and star-power in Hollywood and you have the perfect recipe for a surefire success.
Next we have the currently untitled Bourne 5, which will be a follow-up to the dreadful, but somewhat financially successful The Bourne Legacy. Though the film didn’t do as well as its predecessors in terms of box office haul or reviews, the studio has stated that they are “actively working” on another Bourne film. No word yet on who will star, Jeremy Renner or Matt Damon, or both, but they are going ahead with another film in the franchise and it will likely arrive in 2015.
Finally, Universal announced that they are hoping to have Snow White and the Huntsman 2 out by 2015. The studio confirmed that Kristen Stewart would be returning and Rupert Sanders would not but no other details have been made public at this time.
So, now we can add Pitch Perfect 2, Snow White and The Huntsman 2 and Bourne 5 to the 2015 slate, which already includes heavy hitters like The Avengers 2, Pirates of the Caribbean 5, Star Wars: Episode VII and Ant-Man, among others.
Personally, none of the upcoming Universal sequels excite me much as I didn’t particularly enjoy their predecessors. And to be quite honest, I don’t see any of the sequels improving things. Bourne just isn’t the same without Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass, Kristen Stewart still can’t act and Pitch Perfect, well, aside from the music, I didn’t find much to like in that film.
What do you think though? Excited for any of these sequels? Let us know in the comments below.
