Super Bowl LII has come and gone and still, the deluge of blockbuster trailers continues unabated.
As the Internet combs through new promos for Avengers: Infinity War, Deadpool 2 and Solo: A Star Wars Story, Sony Pictures has announced plans to peel back the curtain on Venom. And soon.
Per Twitter, we now know that Venom‘s first-look trailer will be with us sometime tomorrow, February 8th, when we’ll catch a one-and-a-half-minute preview of the Spider-Man spinoff. It’s been rated PG by the British Board of Film Classification (h/t Trailer Track), but don’t let that family-friendly rating fool you; Venom is an R-rated account of the lethal protector, and it’s coming by way of Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer.
Here’s the bite-sized synopsis that came tethered to today’s announcement:
One of Marvel’s most enigmatic, complex and badass characters comes to the big screen, starring Academy Award® nominated actor Tom Hardy as the lethal protector Venom.
Said to be inspired by the Lethal Protector comic series, there have been mooted reports that Venom will incorporate five other symbiotes – namely Scream, Phage, Riot, Lasher, and Agony – into its story, one which largely centers on Eddie Brock and his run-in with the nefarious Life Foundation.
And though there’s been a lot of back-and-forth about whether Venom exists within the MCU or some other pocket of space between Sony and Marvel, it’s been claimed that Tom Holland will cameo in the spinoff feature, after all – but as Peter Parker, not Spider-Man.
One way or another, Sony and director Ruben Fleischer plan to unleash Venom worldwide on October 5th. And we’ll have a full breakdown of tomorrow’s trailer the moment it goes live. For now, though, you can check out the first and decidedly ominous poster below.
