By now, you’ve probably noticed how The Conjuring film franchise has emerged to become one of the biggest and most lucrative in the horror genre for the current decade. Having already scared the pants off audiences with two installments of its own, the series has actually birthed a cinematic universe, which has added the likes of The Nun and two Annabelle flicks (soon to be three) to its pantheon.
Even though I’m sure a fair amount of you dig the spinoffs, you’re probably wondering when you’ll be able to feast your eyes on the next main entry into the saga. As it turns out, that’ll arrive later next year, with filming set to commence this June.
In the meantime, though, actress Vera Farmiga has given us something to chew on while promoting the upcoming Annabelle Comes Home, which is due in cinemas on June 28th. Here’s what she had to say to Entertainment Weekly about what to expect from The Conjuring 3:
“Conjuring 3 is coming, and it will be a doozy. It will be big. So for me, visiting these characters [in Annabelle Comes Home], it’s like practicing your scales and doing a few arpeggios before having to dive deep into the next one. Because the next one is massive.”
Despite Michael Chaves (The Curse of La Llorona) now shouldering directorial duties, James Wan still has a hand in the series, previously teasing the plot of the movie. In fact, I think this provides a hint as to what Farmiga was getting at:
“It’s this guy who was on trial for committing a murder. I think it’s the first time in America’s history where the defendant used possessions as a reason, as an excuse.”
All will be revealed once The Conjuring 3 arrives in theaters on September 11th, 2020, but before then, you can look forward to the aforementioned Annabelle Comes Home hitting cinemas in June.
