Of the many (many) heroes set to feature in Avengers: Infinity War, none seems more doomed than poor Vision. The math is simple: his ‘brain’ is the Mind Stone and he cannot function without it. Thanos’ whole deal is that he wants the Infinity Stones and we’ve already seen him wielding most of them on his gauntlet. You don’t have to be Sherlock Holmes to work out that Vision has to be one of the Mad Titan’s first targets when he arrives on Earth.
With that in mind, it’s unsurprising that co-director Anthony Russo has said in an interview with Empire that the android’s scenes are going to be structured “like a horror film.” And hey, if hugely powerful trans-dimensional monsters from beyond space are on a mission to rip your brain out and use it to kill half of humanity, that sounds pretty horrific to me.
Word is that Vision is now able to transform (or at least appear) into a more human, Paul Bettany-shaped, form. Him and Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch are holed up in Stockholm, perhaps figuring that unless Thanos is after some flat-pack furniture or meatballs, he’s unlikely to think of searching for them in Sweden. Their hopes appear to be quickly dashed, however, as the Black Order arrive with the intent of prying that stone out of Vision’s head.
Poor guy. The story takes on an even more tragic tinge, too, as Olsen has said that he and Scarlet Witch are getting a bit lovey-dovey, stating:
“We get to introduce and really explore their relationship. It creates a really exciting arc for me and I’m so lucky I get to work with Bettany all the time now.”
Tell us, do you think Vision is a goner in Avengers: Infinity War? If so, will he merely be the first of many heroes to fall? We’ve only got about a month until we know for sure, but if you think you’ve got it figured out, let us know in the comments section down below.
