Derek Zoolander, in all of his irreverent and vapid glory, has always been a character that transcended the parameters of Ben Stiller’s cult comedy hit of 2001. It’s part of the reason why Stiller’s dim-witted fashion icon has been awarded with a sequel after so many years and, as was revealed earlier today, why the actor can remain fully in character for a rather hilarious cover shoot with Vogue to trumpet the imminent release of Zoolander 2.
Ensuring that Stiller’s titular male model is the center of attention, Paramount Pictures has partnered with the fashion powerhouse for a string of photos along with an extensive pseudo-interview featuring 73 questions, quizzing Derek about everything from what he loves about New York to the first thing he thought of when he woke up in the morning. It’s all very meta and self-indulgent, but Stiller remaining fully in character – pout and all – is enough to keep the clip running along.
[zerg]If it’s part of the wonderful weirdness that scribe Justin Theroux teased for the sequel, then Paramount’s marketing team have hit the nail on the head. Expect plenty of teasers and posters for Ben Stiller’s long-awaited sequel as it approaches its February debut on the catwalk – and theaters, too.
Boasting an appropiatley starry cast, Zoolander 2 brings together new cameos and returning faces alike including Billy Zane, Fred Armisen, Justin Bieber, Kyle Mooney, Kim Kardashian, Ariana Grande, and many more set to appear, while we know that Owen Wilson, Penélope Cruz, Christine Taylor, Kristen Wiig, Will Ferrell and Cyrus Arnold also star.
Zoolander 2 will give the Merc With a Mouth a run for his money when Ben Stiller’s long-awaited comedy sequel opens in theaters on February 12. For now, you can check out some of Derek’s new poses (read: they’re all the same) via the gallery below.
