According to a report from Trailer Track, you can now add War for the Planet of the Apes to the growing list of 2017 blockbusters on the verge of unveiling their first trailers – ’tis the season for hot new teasers, it seems.
Citing a post from German classification board FSK, Trailer Track claims that 20th Century Fox has aligned said sizzle reel for a release in the coming weeks, and will seemingly be one of the many studios piggybacking off the hype and excitement generated by Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. It’ll reportedly run for 91 seconds in total, and though the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) is yet to disclose anything official, it’s safe to assume that War for the Planet of the Apes will maintain series tradition and release as a PG-13.
Two months ago, Matt Reeves’ blockbuster threequel was in attendance at New York Comic-Con, where Fox rolled out a foreboding teaser trailer that had Caesar (Andy Serkis) deliver the chilling line: “War has begun.” That flashpoint can be traced back to the advent of Woody Harrelson’s no-nonsense Colonel, the human villain of Reeves’ story that wages war on Caesar and his kind.
Here’s the official logline: “Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind.” Looks like Andy Serkis’ simian is in for a very, very dark journey in 2017.
Building on the marked success of Dawn and Rise, War for the Planet of the Apes will cap off Fox’s effects-laden trilogy on July 14, 2017.
