Nova is a name that ought to bring back a flood of memories for longtime fans of the Planet of the Apes series. Almost 50 years ago, the greatĀ Linda Melson Harrison played the mute human girl, one raised in the bustling metropolis of Ape City far, far from home. In War For the Planet of the Apes, it’s a little different.
Indeed, Nova’s inclusion naturally took many fans by surprise, and it was only last year that 20th Century Fox and director Matt Reeves revealed the iconic character as a means of dovetailing Fox’s rebooted series with the events of the original franchise. Played by the up-and-coming actress Amiah Miller, Nova’s addition to War For the Planet of the Apes is said to be much more than a throwaway piece of fan service, too, with Reeves hinting that Miller’s young’un rekindles Caesar’s sense of empathy – or, for lack of a better phrase, his human side. He’ll need it, too, what with his upcoming tussle with Woody Harrelson’s malevolent Colonel.
Curious to see Caesar’s latest (and perhaps final?) battle ahead of time? Fox has today announced an advanced screening event titled “Be The First to Witness The End.” It’s a one-night shindig that will take place across 37 markets, and you can find full details of how to enter via thisĀ link.
“Apes together…strong.” War For the Planet of the Apes gallops into theaters on July 14th. It’s been described as the final chapter in Fox’s prequel saga, and is, therefore, a very Caesar-centric story, but don’t expect the studio to retire its blockbuster franchise anytime soon.
In War for the Planet of the Apes, the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.
