Earlier this morning, all hell broke loose when news surfaced that pointed to Zack Snyder’s Justice League being in a fair amount of trouble. Splash Report claimed that the film had undergone extensive reshoots and had essentially been remade – twice. Of course, this sent shockwaves through the four corners of the internet and it was just a matter of time before the studio fired back.
While they haven’t issued any kind of official statement, a source has gone to bat for Warner Bros., saying that there’s no truth to any of this and that the additional photography was always planned. If that sounds familiar, it’s because Disney issued a similar response to the Rogue One reshoot rumors back in the summer.
“There has been no additional photography to date on ‘Justice League,’ we have planned and will shoot additional pickups early summer,” says one studio insider. “Additional photography has always been planned like most pictures in general but certainly for a tentpole of ‘Justice League’s’ size and scope,” they continued.
Admittedly, it’s true what this source is saying. Reshoots are extremely common for movies these days, especially huge blockbusters like this one. That being said, these aren’t the first concerning rumors we’re hearing about Justice League, and this also wouldn’t be the first time that a DCEU film underwent extensive reshoots, either – just look what happened with Suicide Squad. With that in mind, it’s understandable why people are worried.
Unfortunately, there’s really no way to know for sure what’s going on here. Is Warner Bros. just trying to put out the fire, or was Splash Report’s initial story false? And, even if the film is undergoing extensive reshoots, is there any reason to worry? Rogue One was tampered with pretty heavily after it finished production and we all know how that turned out, right? Reshoots, even ones that are large in scale, aren’t always a bad thing. Then again, this is a DCEU film we’re talking about and it’s easy to see why there’s skepticism.
One way or another, all will be revealed on November 17th, when Zack Snyder’s Justice League finally makes its long awaited debut in theatres.
