Though Warner Bros. has already moved its buzziest project, the Zack Snyder-helmed, Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill-starring Batman vs. Superman, back to May of 2016, that doesn’t mean that the studio will be in any way resting on its laurels until then. Hot on the heels of scheduling The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and Focus for the early months of 2015, Warner Bros. has scheduled a huge amount of highly anticipated projects. We’ll take them on in chronological order.
The horror flick formerly known as Annabelle, a spinoff from The Conjuring, has been set for October 3 of this year. It’s going to face tough competition from David Fincher’s Gone Girl, though the huge returns from the first film in the franchise are probably giving New Line the utmost confidence that the John Leonetti-directed spinoff will perform well. Annabelle Wallis and Ward Horton lead the cast, which also includes Alfre Woodard and Eric Ladin.
Inherent Vice, from The Master auteur Paul Thomas Anderson, has been scheduled for December 12, 2014, right in the thick of awards season. Starring Joaquin Phoenix, Reese Witherspoon, Owen Wilson, Josh Brolin, Katherine Waterston and Jena Malone, the film, adapted from Thomas Pynchon’s 2009 novel, will follow a pot-smoking detective on a kidnapping case in 1970s Los Angeles. It’s currently set to open against Ridley Scott’s awards contender Exodus, an equally star-studded Biblical epic.
The Liam Neeson actioner Run All Night, directed by Non-Stop helmer Jaume Collet-Serra, has been set for release on February 6, 2015. The film will follow an aging hitman (Neeson) who is forced to take on his deadly former boss (Ed Harris) with the help of his estranged son (Joel Kinnaman) over the course of one challenging night. Genesis Rodriguez, Boyd Holbrook, Vincent D’Onofrio and Common co-star.
Mean Moms, a comedy in the vein of Mean Girls starring Jennifer Aniston as a mother who moves to the ruthlessly cutthroat suburbs, is set to open on May 8, 2015. Beth McCarthy-Miller (Saturday Night Live) is directing.
The long-in-the-tooth Entourage movie is finally getting off the ground, and Warner Bros. has slotted it for June 12, 2015, where it will face off against Jurassic World. All of the original cast members are set to reprise their roles, and Entourage creator Doug Ellis has been signed to write and direct. Little is known about the film, though it will be set six months after the end of the popular HBO series.
Warner Bros. has also set The Intern, a Nancy Meyers-directed comedy starring Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway, for release on September 25, 2015. Not to be confused with Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson’s similarly-titled The Internship, The Intern finds Hathaway playing the owner of a successful fashion blog who forms an unexpected bond with the elderly intern working at her company (De Niro).
The highly anticipated sequel to New Line’s horror hit The Conjuring, currently titled The Conjuring 2, will open on the prime Halloween release date of October 23, 2015. Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson are set to reprise their roles for the film. Carey Hayes and Chad Hayes will pen the script.
Finally, romantic comedy How to Be Single has been scheduled for February 12, 2016. It’s the first rom-com to book a slot in the always competitive Valentine’s Day weekend, and it’s currently opening against epic Gods of Egypt and Universal’s Pets kiddie flick.
Which of the above titles are you most curious about? Personally, I’m stoked to see Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest, and the cast he’s set for Inherent Vice is particularly appetizing. Let us know what you’re looking forward to below!
