The famous Gold Coast of Australia has fast become a popular destination for Hollywood tentpoles over the last few years, what with Thor: Ragnarok and the imminent Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales using the country’s picture-perfect coastline during various stages of production. Warner Bros. and James Wan’s Aquaman is the latest blockbuster to head Down Under, and following the director’s status update from yesterday, WB has now lifted the lid on the official title card for Arthur Curry’s solo outing, along with the full cast list.
The former is embedded below, and offers a closer look at the Aquaman logo – the same one that was teased just prior to March’s Justice League trailer. Casting-wise, thanks to a fleeting cameo in Batman V Superman, we know that it is former Game of Thrones star Jason Momoa who will be taking charge as the King of Atlantis. Trident in hand, he’ll be flanked by an all-star ensemble that includes Amber Heard (Justice League) as Mera, Willem Dafoe as Vulko, Green Lantern‘s Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, and the and Oscar-winning Nicole Kidman as Atlanna. There’s also room in Aquaman‘s ranks for The Conjuring‘s Patrick Wilson, who reunites with James Wan to play the part of Orm/Ocean Master.
Warner Bros.’ official press release is as follows, and it sheds some light on the production itself:
As is fitting for the king of the sea, the shoot will take place mainly in locations spanning the stunning Gold Coast of Queensland, Australia, with extensive filming to be accomplished at Village Roadshow Studios. The production will utilize the facility’s sprawling backlot and all nine VRS soundstages, including its newest, Stage 9, the largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. Filming will also take place in Newfoundland, Sicily and Tunisia.
An icon for over 75 years, Aquaman is known by fans of DC Comics as the ruler of Atlantis but committed to protecting the entire globe, both land and sea.
Though we still have Wonder Woman (June 2nd) and Justice League (November 17th) to look forward to, Warner Bros. has officially set the wheels in motion on Aquaman. December 21st, 2018 is the date for your diaries, and WB will have been relieved to learn that Disney chose to slate Star Wars: Episode IX for launch in May of 2019, breaking the Christmas tradition of The Force Awakens, Rogue One, and this year’s The Last Jedi.
