The first official trailer for Universal’s adaption of The Lorax has been released and the film appears to take some liberties with the classic Dr. Seuss tale.
Instead of being an emotional metaphor for humanity’s destruction of the environment, this version of The Lorax is about a boy (voiced by Zac Efron) on a quest for something that will help him win the girl of his dreams (Taylor Swift). In doing so, he encounters The Lorax (Danny DeVito) the protector of the Truffula trees, which are being uprooted by a greedy clothing entrepreneur.
Literally everything in this trailer is cute. It’s immensely visually appealing, with so many colors and soft shapes I feel like I’m in the world’s most awesome preschool. The only thing that bothers me is Zac Efron‘s voice sounds way too old for his character’s body. I just hope this movie isn’t as disappointing as Horton Hears a Who. Will it be as big of a tearjerker as the book? We’ll have to find out on March 2nd.
