The latest trailer for comic book teen spy adaptation, Kingsman: The Secret Service, has arrived online with a wallop, ker-blam and POW! Of course it has: it’s the Super Bowl teaser. Much like yesterday’s Terminator: Genisys tease and the first Avengers: Age Of Ultron spot, the emphasis here is on the razzle dazzle.
When you consider the folks behind this James Bond-inspired caper – Mark Millar and Matthew Vaughn – their combined names suggest one specific type of stylized content. The pair’s previous collaboration, Kick Ass, is a heck of a lot of fun, even if many disregarded it for its hyper-violence and overabundance of swearing. Bearing that in mind, the studio are no doubt honing in on the fun-loving target demographic for Kingsman with this exciting new tease.
Based on Millar’s original comic, the film stars Colin Firth as an agile and quick-witted spy who works for a top secret organization. He enlists a street scamp teen (Taron Egerton) into the ranks with the hopes of him entering into their training program. At the same time, a new global baddie pops up and obviously everyone must try and stop the crazed tech nut.
Whereas previous trailers might have tried to display an air of finesse, this quick, fast and dirty tease is over before it’s even begun. There’s insane action, a plethora of attractive women, explosions and smart mouth one-liners. Frenetic and geared for the football crowd, it ought to ensure that if folks decide not to fork out for Fifty Shades they’ll go for this instead.
Kingsman: The Secret Service is already out in the UK, with a US release set for February 13th.
Based upon the acclaimed comic book and directed by Matthew Vaughn (Kick Ass, X-Men First Class), Kingsman: The Secret Service tells the story of a super-secret spy organization that recruits an unrefined but promising street kid into the agency’s ultra-competitive training program just as a global threat emerges from a twisted tech genius.
