Today we have a new red band trailer for Filth and I could not be more excited. Personally, there are two huge draws for me when it comes to the upcoming film, which is directed by Jon S. Baird.
One is James McAvoy, who is without a doubt one of my favorite actors out there and is doing some tremendously impressive work these days. I loved Trance, I thought he was brilliant in X-Men: First Class, I’ve been clamouring for a Wanted sequel for years now and of course, The Last King of Scotland is a classic. I really enjoy McAvoy’s films and will watch him in just about anything.
Then there’s the fact that this film is based on an Irvine Welsh novel. Who’s Irvine Welsh you ask? Oh, he’s just the guy who wrote Trainspotting, which Danny Boyle went on to adapt into one of the best films, ever.
Unfortunately, Filth doesn’t have a U.S. distributor yet, or even a release date for that matter, but the promotional material is still coming at us and so far, the film looks fantastic.
In Filth, McAvoy plays a corrupt cop named Bruce Robertson, who has issues with drugs, sex, alcohol and everything else that goes with that territory. He’s the kind of cop who spends more time breaking the law than keeping it.

Scheming Bruce Robertson (James McAvoy), a bigoted and corrupt policeman, is in line for a promotion and will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Enlisted to solve a brutal murder and threatened by the aspirations of his colleagues, including Ray Lennox (Jamie Bell), Bruce sets about ensuring their ruin, right under the nose of unwitting Chief Inspector Toal. As he turns his colleagues against one another by stealing their wives and exposing their secrets, Bruce starts to lose himself in a web of deceit that he can no longer control. His past is slowly catching up with him, and a missing wife, a crippling drug habit and suspicious colleagues start to take their toll on his sanity. The question is: can he keep his grip on reality long enough to disentangle himself from the filth?
Aside from McAvoy, there’s a supporting cast that includes Jim Broadbent, Jamie Bell and Imogen Poots. Not bad, eh? That cast coupled with what looks like another insane, twisted and wild tale from the mind of Irvine Welsh is what has me so excited to see how this one turns out.
While those in North America will have to wait a while before they get the chance to see Filth, it will open in Scotland on September 27th. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think.
