As the Marvel Cinematic Universe begins steering itself back on course, the Spider-Verse world continues basking in critical acclaim and rousing box-office numbers, and James Gunn’s imminent DC Universe prepares to launch next year, there’s a lot going on in the world of superhero franchises, which is perhaps why it’s equal parts understandable and surprising that Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU) is still managing to tread water after all this time.
We’re pulling for Kraven the Hunter to inject a bit of life into a lackluster library consisting of Venom, its sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage, and, of course, Morbius, a film whose reputation precedes it in all the worst ways. But it’s Madame Web that’s cause for most intrigue as the SSU looks ahead to hopefully bigger and better things; beyond the titular character’s relative obscurity from the lens of a mainstream audience, the fact that the protagonist boasts a powerset, namely Spider-Person-sensitive clairvoyance, that doesn’t loan itself to combat means that Madame Web might not be what we’re used to seeing from a comic book film.
But when exactly will we see what Madame Web‘s deal is? Here’s when we can all start rolling up to cinemas to catch S. J. Clarkson’s directorial debut in the SSU.
When does Madame Web come out?
At the time of writing, Madame Web is slated to release on Feb. 16, 2024, having been delayed twice from its original dates of July 7 and Oct. 6 of this year.
Dakota Johnson portrays the eponymous mutant, while Sydney Sweeney is set to portray the Julia Carpenter rendition of Spider-Woman. Also among the cast are the likes of Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, Tahar Rahim, Emma Roberts, Mike Epps, Adam Scott, and Zosia Mamet.
S. J. Clarkson, as mentioned earlier, spearheads the film from the director’s chair with a script from Morbius scribes Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless; here’s hoping things go a bit better this time around.
