There’s a humorous social media video from the 1980’s making the rounds of Mark Hamill explaining what he thought about the Princess Leia plot twist in Return of the Jedi.

(For those unfamiliar, I guess you can consider this a spoiler alert; do not read further if you haven’t yet watched the original Star Wars trilogy, but plan to.)

As most of us already know, it’s revealed in the film that Princess Leia — played by Carrie Fisher — is the twin sister of Luke. Does this not make Luke a Prince? I guess that’s an article for another day.

Anyway, in the clip, it appears that Hamill was asked about potentially playing Luke again if another trilogy were to happen. He replies, “I mean, I don’t want to play Luke again unless there can be a girlfriend.”

Hamill, sporting a thinned mustache that he likely hasn’t worn since, wastes no time adding, “You know what it reminded me of? It’s like the good news, bad news jokes when we finally read the script for Jedi. The good news is that we have found an eligible female in the galaxy. The bad news is, she’s your sister.”

Ever the comedian, Hamill’s lost chance at on-screen Jedi romance was truly a missed opportunity. Imagine the things a Jedi can do in bed. OK, maybe don’t imagine those things. At least Hayden Christensen got to be in a relationship as Anakin Skywalker, which seems unfair — to think that Darth Vader gets the romance angle, but Luke gets nothing. “I am your father,” could have clearly changed at some point to “Who’s your daddy?” but let’s not go there.

Hamill doesn’t need my added attempt at humor, so just pretend you did not read the last paragraph and just enjoy the short video.
