As is the case every year, it’s pretty safe to make an assumption that a big chunk of the Super Bowl 2023 viewership tuned in for the football, but stayed for the commercials, trailers, and half-time show.
Whether you’re buzzing about Rihanna’s performance, giddy about seeing Michael Keaton don a bat cowl for the first time since the early 90’s, or just there for a good ol’ fashioned football game, there was certainly something for everyone. That includes Marvel fiends, who were treated to a second trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
It definitely gave the fanbase a fair bit to chew on and seemed to hint towards imminent doom for one or more of the fan-favorite cast of characters, but another standout was the music playing over the trailer.
Much like its predecessors, Guardian of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is sure to be utilizing music as narrative devices. The trailer revealed “Since You Been Gone” by Rainbow will be featured on what is sure to be an OST once again filled with late-twentieth century bangers.
Not to be confused with Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone”, the song by Rainbow is a cover of Russ Ballard’s song from his 1976 album Winning. Rainbow’s version was released in 1979, as the first single for their album Down to Earth.
“Since You Been Gone” joins Spacehog’s “In The Meantime” as the second tune to be featured on the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 soundtrack. We’ll discover the rest when the film hits theaters on May 5, 2023. Of course, before that, we’re taking a trip into the quantum realm with Scott Lang in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania on Feb. 17.
