It is often the case for romantic comedies to come and go without making much of a splash. However, Netflix’s The Perfect Find is an outlier. The piece based on the book of the same name by Tia Williams recently premiered on the platform, has received good reviews and has many wondering just who the person called Matthew mentioned at the end of its credits was.
For those who have not seen the piece currently sitting at 71 percent positive on Rotten Tomatoes or caught the title above, at one point near its end, the words “In loving memory of Matthew” pop up on the screen. There is no Matthew in the movie about folks working for a company which reports on beauty products, and, with this in mind, we turned to the project’s I.M.D.B page instead. Here, a Matthew Myers is listed as an executive producer. A Google search confirms a man of the same name died in Iceland in 2021 and subsequent research shows he was closely involved in film efforts on both coasts and in his community in North Dakota.
This appears to be Myers’ second-to-last project (and one of his first posthumously) and there is one more in-can and coming up. It is an independent piece called Bliss, currently in post-production. Before this and The Perfect Find, Myers dabbled in a number of different and similar genres with projects like Irreplaceable You, Catch Hell, See You Yesterday and Adam.
While most in the world can only know Myers through the art he created, it is clear from a GoFundMe set up to help with expenses related to his sudden and unexpected death he was a very well-loved and liked man. Our thoughts are with his family and if you want to see some of the things he had a hand in, they are available on Netflix and countless other streaming services now. Some will make you laugh; others will bring you good feelings and, according to the GoFundMe, it sounds like this was Myers.
Fellow executive producer Lydia Tenaglia shared a statement regarding Myers’ passing:
“I am deeply sad to hear of Matt’s passing. We went to graduate school together and I remember him as pure joy and laughter incarnate. My love and condolences to Jacqueline.”
Cast and crew involved with the release do not appear to have confirmed whether the dedication is for Myers at this time.
