Fresh off his anxiety-ridden odyssey in Beau Is Afraid, Joaquin Phoenix‘s appetite for leading epics has now led him to Napoleon, where he’ll step into the shoes of the eponymous French military commander and embody the spearhead of some of the most famous military campaigns in history.
We’ve already gotten a look at the first trailer, and it looks like Ridley Scott will be pulling all the stops to ensure that the bread and butter of Napoleon’s fame will be as realized as possible. Indeed, with practical effects abound and the promise of a whopping six major battle sequences, this will be one monster of a biopic.
But when exactly will we get to see Phoenix ravage Europe on screens big and small?
What is the release date of Napoleon?
Napoleon will release to theaters on Nov. 22, the same month as the famous 1799 coup d’état that saw Napoleon first rise to power as First Consul of France.
An Apple Studios original film, Napoleon will find itself exclusively within the library of Apple TV Plus once its theatrical window closes, although the exact date of the streaming release is unknown at the time of writing.
Joining Phoenix among the cast is Vanessa Kirby as Empress Joséphine, whose relationship with Napoleon serves as the film’s narrative lynchpin, while Tahar Rahim portrays Paul Barras, a figurehead of the French Revolution. Scott’s direction is paired with a script from David Scarpa, who also penned the screenplay for the legendary director’s upcoming 2024 film Gladiator 2.
