Cocaine Bear, a much-talked about film for various reasons, including it being one of the late, great Ray Liotta’s final projects, is officially making its way to streaming, DVD, and blu-ray release two months after its theatrical debut.
The film’s premise is about a bear who weighs approximately 500 pounds accidentally consuming a large amount of cocaine and going on a killing spree. This state of affairs, understandably, leads many individuals in a small town in Georgia to band together in an attempt to stop the bear’s rampage.
Despite the bear’s unbelievable reign of terror in Cocaine Bear, the project is actually loosely based on real-life events in Chattahoochee National Forest in Georgia in 1985 — though the bear passed away after overdosing on cocaine, and didn’t commit murders. The movie stars Keri Russell, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Margo Martindale, Kristofer Hivju, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Brooklynn Prince, Ayoola Smart, and many others.
Since Cocaine Bear‘s theatrical premiere in February of this year, the film garnered over $85 million in box office revenue. Despite the film’s profit, it would receive mixed reviews from fans and critics alike. The most-cited reasons for the lackluster reception stemmed from Cocaine Bear‘s visual effects, and its script.
According to CNET, although Cocaine Bear was released on video-on-demand services like Amazon Prime for $19.99 last month, many can now enjoy it for a smaller fee on April 14, when the movie debuts on Peacock. For those trying to get a physical copy of the movie, you’ll have to wait a few days, until April 18, when it is released on Blu-ray and DVD. In addition to the Cocaine Bear film debuting on Peacock, fans could also view a new documentary surrounding the real-life events on the streaming service.
Cocaine Bear is set to premiere on Peacock on April 14 at 6 am/ET. RIP, Actual Bear.
