In light of a premiere at Cannes over the course of the weekend – which also brought forth a mighty new image – Disney has pumped out what is likely the third and final trailer for Steven Spielberg’s The BFG, coupled with a new poster to boot.
Bringing together Ruby Barnhill’s wide-eyed orphan Sophie and Mark Rylance’s amicable behemoth, the snippet sends our adventuring pair off to Giant Country, where Sophie learns a thing or two about a giant’s day-to-day life which so often involves blowing dreams, guzzling down Snozzcumbers and stalking human beans in the sleep.
Beyond that, there’s also a new peek at the lavish, CG-heavy scenes that Spielberg and Co. have orchestrated. Impressive though they may be, an over-reliance on VFX wizardry proved to be one of the early criticisms trickling out from the first wave of reviews. They are, without doubt, a mixed bag, and it remains to be seen whether said reviews have much of an impact on the movie’s success come release.
Also starring Bill Hader, Jemaine Clement, Penelope Wilton and Rebecca Hall, The BFG stomps into theaters on July 1. That aforementioned new poster, meanwhile, can be seen below:
The BFG brings Sophie to Dream Country where he collects dreams and sends them to children, teaching her all about the magic and mystery of dreams. Having both been on their own in the world up until now, their affection for one another quickly grows, but Sophie’s presence in Giant Country has attracted the unwanted attention of the other giants, who have become increasingly more bothersome. Sophie and the BFG soon depart for London to see Queen Victoria (Penelope Wilton) and warn her of the precarious giant situation, but they must first convince the Queen and her maid, Mary (Rebecca Hall), that giants do indeed exist. Together, they come up with a plan to get rid of the giants once and for all.
