30 Rock actress Tina Fey is preparing for some strange days across Afghanistan and Pakistan in the latest trailer for war dramedy Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.
Directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (Focus and Crazy, Stupid, Love), the feature film lifts inspiration from Kim Barker’s wartime memoir, The Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days In Afghanistan And Pakistan, shipping Fey’s budding Chicago Tribune reporter off to the front lines as a war correspondent.
And so, without a shred of experience to call her own, Fey’s lead finds herself knee deep in Operation Enduring Freedom – AKA the global war on terrorism – as our photojournalist begins capturing the skirmishes across the sun-scorched region.
As today’s trailer attests, overseas reporting is by no means her forte, and Ficarra and Requa are doubling down on the fish-out-of-water dynamic for Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. There’s an air of Liz Lemon’s slick sense of humor to Fey’s character as well, though Ficarra and Requa’s feature is a far cry from the actress’ comedic comfort zone, and that makes it all the more refreshing to watch unfold.
Reuniting with her Focus directors is Margot Robbie, with Alfred Molina and Christopher Abbott also on board the Paramount flick. Billy Bob Thornton stars as Col. Hollanek, while Martin Freeman is set to play a fellow journalist and love interest to Fey’s Kim Barker.
Creeping ever closer to release, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot will rappel into theaters on March 4.
