DC fans are eating well tonight. Warner Bros. has just unveiled three new superheroes set to join Superman: Legacy and fans are incredibly hyped to see some of DC’s lesser-known heroes on the big screen. Characters like Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), and Mr. Terrific are set to make their live-action film debuts in 2025.
Who’s DC’s Mr. Terrific?
As far as superheroes go, Mr. Terrific, whose real name is Michael Holt, is truly one of a kind. He definitely lives up to his title with a genius-level intellect and displays “a natural aptitude for having natural aptitudes”. Mr. Terrific has the uncanny ability to master any skill to an advanced degree should he put his mind to it.
Known as the third smartest man on Earth, Mr. Terrific is also aided by his ‘T-Spheres,’ small, mechanical devices which can be used in multiple ways — with applications in stealth, weaponry, and hacking. His mask also allows him to be ‘invisible’ to all forms of technology, and his physicality can only be described as ‘peak human’ — the man has six black belts and an Olympic gold medal in the decathlon. Needless to say, he’s brain-meets-brawn — although he’s not quite on Superman’s level when it comes to DC’s heavy hitters.
He’s also got a friendly rivalry going with Batman, and in his civilian identity as Michael Holt, he’s done a few business dealings with Bruce Wayne. Mr. Terrific also serves as a prolific member of the Justice Society of America, sometimes operating as the superhero society’s chairman.
Until now, the character has mostly been confined to animation and mostly in the background. However, a version of the character, Curtis Holt, did appear as a recurring character on The Flash.
Who’s portraying Mr. Terrific in Superman: Legacy?
Edi Gathegi will be portraying Mr. Terrific in Superman: Legacy. The Kenyan-American actor may be particularly familiar to Twilight fans, as he portrayed the role of vampire Laurent in the first and second films of the saga. That’s not to say he doesn’t have a varied career elsewhere; besides appearances on The Black List and Into the Badlands, he also starred in The Watcher — a thriller/home invasion film.
Gathegi has also previously done superhero work. He starred in X-Men: First Class as Darwin, though the role didn’t necessarily do him justice (c’mon, his mutant power is to not die, and he still got killed off? What’s that about?). Hopefully, his role as Mr. Terrific lets him truly shine — he definitely has the acting chops, all he needs now is for the film to do him justice.
