The Flash has gone through many different stages of development since Ezra Miller was attached to the project back in 2014. Reprising his role from Justice League, Miller will be embarking on his first solo adventure as the scarlet speedster in the film, which is set to finally be released on June 16, 2023. The Flash will act as a reset for the existing DC Cinematic Universe in order to pave the way for James Gunn’s new vision for it.
Originally titled Flashpoint before it was retitled, the film is inspired by the storyline of the comic book of the same name by Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert. The comic book story sees the Flash travel to an alternate reality where his mother is alive, but here, Superman never existed and Thomas and Martha Wayne weren’t gunned down in Crime Alley, their son Bruce Wayne was.
While the trailer for the film telegraphs the differences between the film and the comic, they are still using some similar set pieces and characters from the book. Instead of having Thomas Wayne become a darker Batman, they are using Michael Keation’s version of the character, and in place of Kal-El being hidden away after his ship land, it’s his cousin Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl at the forefront of the impending battle. Supergirl steals the spotlight in the trailer for the film, with her and Michael Keaton being the standouts.
So, in case, you are wondering who’s playing Superman’s super cousin, it’s time to take a look, and know everything you need to know about Supergirl in The Flash.
Sasha Calle stars as Kara/Supergirl in The Flash
Sasha Calle is playing Supergirl in the upcoming film. She is a relatively unknown actor, with The Flash being her first major film role. Calle, born in Boston, will be the first Latina actor to star as Supergirl as the character has been previously played by Helen Slater, Laura Vandervoort, and Melissa Benoist.
You might recognize her from her other major role on The Young and the Restless tv series where she played Lola Rosales. It is currently uncertain whether or not Calle will be reprising the role of Supergirl after The Flash is released, especially since the news of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow being in the works for James Gunn’s DCU wasn’t accompanied by the confirmation that Calle would be starring as the titular character. With fans being adamant that Calle’s appearance in the trailer is one of the things hyping them up for the upcoming film, it seems unfair to not keep the actress around as the Kryptonian superhero. But alas, nothing official has been announced yet.
You can catch Sasha Calle’s performance as Supergirl when The Flash speeds into theaters on June 16, 2023.
