The Flash is now on the starting blocks ready to race into action. In just a few weeks, we’re getting one of the busiest superhero movies in years, featuring two versions of Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen, Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck’s Batmen, Sasha Calle making her debut as Supergirl, and Michael Shannon as Zod.

Those who’ve seen the movie say there’s an unbelievable third-act montage that sees The Flash making a trip throughout the DC multiverse. Along the way, he’ll encounter the George Reeves Superman from the 1950s TV show Adventures of Superman, which will also include a version of that universe’s original Flash, Jay Garrick. Following that, there’s a brief stop-off to 1978’s Superman and 1984’s Supergirl, with Christopher Reeve and Helen Slater recreated as CGI body doubles.

All that’s pretty mindblowing, but there’s a cherry on top that’s apparently sending test audiences wild. The Flash then travels to the world of the unproduced 1990s Superman Lives. This will see Nicolas Cage finally appear in live-action as Superman in a scene where he’ll battle a robot spider, perhaps the most famous element of the notoriously doomed blockbuster.

Superman Lives finally making it to the big screen (albeit as a cameo) is a real deep cut for fans, so we’re not surprised that early audiences are going nuts. That said, we can’t help but wonder what more casual viewers will make of Cage’s unexpected cameo.
