When asked to describe Captain Marvel‘s capabilities and, more specifically, how they’ll affect the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Infinity War co-writer Christopher Markus compared the incoming Carol Danvers to Captain America in that she’s a “rare kind of character, which is sort of a person who’s right and knows they’re right and doesn’t really want to hear it when you tell them they’re wrong.”
Strong, resolute, determined – all qualities one would associate with Brie Larson’s soon-to-be-introduced Avenger. But earlier this week, the folks over at Screen Rant went one step further to suggest that Captain Marvel may be capable (and worthy!) of wielding Mjolnir come Avengers 4.
Now, I know what you’re thinking: Hela, Goddess of Death, shattered Thor’s mighty hammer into a million pieces during Ragnarok. So there’s simply no way that Carol Danvers could possibly wield a broken weapon, right? Well, providing you buy into those time travel theories that have threatened to engulf Avengers 4, Joe and Anthony Russo are about to flip the tables, opening up alternate timelines and flashbacks to the MCU of yesteryear.
There’s precedent for her wielding the super-weapon, too, as the God-like Vision managed to lift Mjolnir without so much as breaking a sweat in Age of Ultron – to his credit, Captain America also moved the enchanted hammer ever so slightly – and the fact that Kevin Feige has since described Captain Marvel as the MCU’s most powerful character, well, ever, confirms that SR’s theory isn’t exactly outside the realm of possibility.
Whatever the case, we’ll know more about Brie Larson’s would-be Avengers when the Captain Marvel movie soars into theaters on March 8th, 2019. And after that? The conclusive (and so-far untitled) Avengers 4 next May.
